Abstract des Autors

In June 1991, Australian Swimming Inc. conducted a National Sprint Camp for selected swimmers. Sport scientists attended, and measured physiological variables and performance aspects. A variety of sets of swimming repetitions were programmed. A report contained individual measurements, interpretations and conclusions about training and physiological variables. This paper reanalyzed the content of the report. Results showed many of the original assertions and conclusions to be in error. Generally, the physiological measures were not associated with performance times, and considerable individual variation existed within the measures. The data supported no relationships between heart rates, lactate measures, and training speeds developed by the "Treffene" procedure within this highly selected group. It was concluded that sport science consultants need to conduct objective, reliable, and valid tests in order to monitor accurately the progress of swimmers. Verf.-Referat
