Abstract des Autors

Modern aspects of the immune system are correlated with immunobiological phenomena in sports medicine. In general, it can be concluded that moderate endurance training enhances fitness and also the functional tasks of the immune system. The aspect of overtraining must be considered on the basis of various investigations as being a weakening factor to the immune response. While moderate training has an immune-stablizing or even immune-stimulatory effect, excessive top performances may be dangerous for the defense mechanisms of the athlete's immune system, especially since the psychoneuroimmunological network will be affected as well. An immunological monitoring of defense parameters is suggested for top athletes. The question of whether moderate sports has a canceroprotective effect is discussed. Verf.-Referat
