Abstract des Autors

A 14-year-old female runner suffered intense, recurrent, periumbilical pain that occurred only with running. The patients symptoms worsened over time, but no obvious etiology could be determined by history, physical examination, and radiologic and laboratory workups. The patient quit running. However, her symptoms resolved after a trial of a psyllium stool-bulking agent and increased fluid intake, confirming a presumptive diagnosis of silent constipation aggravated by the jarring motion of running. The patient resumed her cross-country training with no recurrence of symptoms. Verf.-Referat
