Abstract

This report is a follow-up study of one (Chapman 1985a) which surveyed the 1984 Wallabies. The results show that 96.7 of the 1990 Wallabies believed mouthguards reduced injuries in and around the mouth, while 90 wore a mouthguard. Also only one of the 27 mouthguard wearers (3.7) was willing to play without a mouthguard, while almost a third of wearers definitely would not play without a mouthguard. Additionally 13 of the 30 players (43.3) had sustained significant orofacial injuries. These and other results are compared to the study of the 1984 Wallabies and similar studies of the 1987 US and the 1989 British rugby teams. Verf.-Referat
