Abstract

First of all we discussed the literature data regarding the influence of physical exercise, competitive or otherwise, on the haemorhelogical pattern and then we analysed the behaviour of the macro- (whole blood viscosity, plasma and serum viscosity, red cell filtration and aggregation) and microrheological (erythrocyte membrane fluidity, red cell membrane transverse polarity gradient) determinants in a group of long distance runners. The latter, compared to a group of sedentary normal subjects, show a significant reduction of plasma viscosity, red cell aggregation and an increase of haemotocrit. These data, in agreement with those of other authors, evidence the favourable haemorheological pattern that long distance runners have compared to sedentary subjects. Verf.-Referat
