Abstract

Post-exercise ketosis has been evaluated in a group of subjects similar for age, sex, anthropometric data, degree of training and type of diet under two different experimental conditions: after a normal meal and after replacing it with a commercial dietary integrator. The exercise consisted of an ergometer bicycle effort equal to 50 of single max VO2 lasting 2 hours. During exercise and for the next 3 hours samples were taken to determine a number of hormonal (insulin, C-peptide, glucagon and GH) and metabolic (glucose, lactate, pryuvate, NEFA, acetacetic acid and beta-hydroxybutyric acid) parameters. No significant difference was noted in the endocrino-metabolic response to exercise in the two tests carried out. It is concluded by stating that, in work such as that carried out and for the indices considered, there is no advantage in replacing a normal diet with an integrator, especially in regard of signs of post-exercise ketosis.
