Abstract

Fifty-three girls and 103 boys, aged 14-19, practising rowing, were studied. They were divided in 3 groups according to their training experience and, independly, in two age groups. The training experience markedly affected the body build of young athletes the best of whom were characterized by more favourable values of the following traits: length, skeleton robustness, musculature, and proportions of tissue components. As compared with non-training youth of the same age, young rowers are characterized by high values of somatic indices. A high proportion of them, however, cannot be expected to meet somatic requirements of Olympic Games finalists. Verf.-Referat
