Abstract des Autors

From this study it was determined that the gymnast has only a certain amount of time from release of the bar to landing, and this time appears to be relatively constant regardless of the number of rotations performed. From the geometric sequence assumption used to achieve the smallest hip angles in the performance of single, double and triple backward somersault, it was predicted that the fourth rotation would take between 0.83 and 0.99 sec.; the total time of 1.877 to 2.037 sec predicted to execute the quadruple somersault (QBS) was longer than the possible flight time. The gymnast would need to 1) increase his angular velocity before release, 2) change the angle of release, and/or 3) stay tucked longer to be able to perform the QBS. Based on the data from this study, even with changes in these variables, the QBS would be a most difficult stunt to perform. Verf.-Referat
