Abstract des Autors

The determination of the athletes physical working capacity is important in the profiling of athletes and is also referred to as aerobic power. The measurement of maximal oxygen uptake is the most reliable direct measurement of aerobic power. Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) was determined in 679 adolescent boys and girls aged from 14 to 19 yr. Thirteen sports were practised by the 228 girls and 18 by the 451 boys. These sports were practised daily and at a high level with particpation in high standard competitions. VO2max were obtained from a maximal treadmill test for most of the adolescents, except the cyclists who used a cycle ergometer and the rowers who performed the test on a rowing ergometer as it is important to select a mode of testing that best represents the athletes sport. The same incremental protocol was performed on the treadmill, the cycle and the rowing ergometers. The initial rate was chosen to allow the athlete to warm up and to get used to the ergometer, so this stage lasted 10 min. The following stages of incremental rates lasted 4 min with a one-min period of rest. Measurements (height and weight) were also made in all the adolescents. The results are presented, classified by sex, sports and age groups. They are discussed and compared with previously published data on similar French and foreign populations. Verf.-Referat (gekuerzt)
