Abstract
The newly designed javelin with low centre of gravity approved recently by IAAF for men was studied in a wind tunnel. Results show that the arm of force from the javelin centre of gravity to the centre of air pressure has little to do with the initial speed of javelin, it varies considerably with the variation of the angle of release; so does the ratio of lift and drag, it gains only with the increase of the angle of release and goes to the maximum when the release angle is 25 degrees. Compared with old javelin, the new one with low centre of gravity has a greater value in pitching moment. It is suggested that for a better aerodynamic effect during javelin flying, the release angle should be properly reduced. Verf.-Referat
