Abstract

This study examined changes in the CO2 sensitivity of 13 untrained swimmers following a five month endurance training program and the relationship between CO2 sensitivity and preferred swimming event of 34 national level swimmers. The results demonstrated no changes between the pre-training and post-training CO2 sensitivity scores of the untrained swimmers. No significant relationship was found when the national level swimmers CO2 responses were correlated with their graded preferred event. The implications of these findings with regard to talent identification are discussed. Verf.-Referat
