Abstract

Twenty-eight anthropometric measures examined on thirty-five provincial and international cricket players were analysed to identify physical characteristics common to top-class batsmen, bowlers and all-rounders and to determine whether these cricketers differ from sedentary subjects. Results indicate that the cricketers have an endo-mesomorphic somatotype rating, while certain morphological differences occur between batsmen, bowlers and all-rounders. The cricketers have a tall, athletic build and a significantly greater mass, stature and body surface area than the sedentary subjects. Furthermore, significantly greater biacromial and bi-iliac diameters, forearm, thigh, calf and chest girth measurements, as well as significantly greater upper limb length values were found. When body composition was compared to that of the sedentary subjects similar results were revealed, except that the cricketers had significantly greater residual mass values. Verf.-Referat
