Over 130.000 people are registered as active participants. Estimated incidence rates of injury range from 4 to 21 annually. The most prominent factors that are mentioned as direct causes are the ball and the stick. Little is known about the relevant risk factors for injury. Dental injuries seem to be prevented by wearing a mouth protector. The introduction of synthetic surfaces is assumed to bring along a number of predisposing factors. Especially the insufficient extinction of the shocks that occur while running and the friction which is raised in combination with the type of sole of the hockey shoe that is utilized seem important. Further studies about these factors are essential in order to make adequate prevention possible.
