Abstract

The aim of the authors in this study is to identify and elaborate an anatomical adaptation model in the athletes taking part in the different sport events. The 271 top class competitive athletes that underwent the echocardiographic study were grouped as follows: 22 basketball players, 10 middle and long distance runners, 7 cross-country skiers, 30 rowers, 13 canoeists, 10 weight-lifters, 11 throwers (discus, shot put hammer and javelin), 18 fencers, 30 road cyclists, 14 track cyclists, 16 volleyball players, 11 sprinters and jumpers (long jump and triple jump), 15 bob racers, 50 professional football players and 14 body builders. The results obtained in these athletes were then compared with those of a group of 50 untrained subjects. Verf.-Referat
