Abstract
The purpose of this report is to document tests of the release characteristics of a new flexible ski boot and binding design. The analysis was done by comparing the new system (Nava) with a classical system (Geze). The analysis yields the following results. (1) In six of the eight trials the Nava binding released consistent with static ski shop settings. In two trials the Nava binding had an early release at the heel. (2) The Geze binding did not release in six of the seven tests. Note that injury producing forces were not attained in the Geze tests. (3) The tibia longitudinal (Z axis) moments measured on the Nava tests were greater than the moments observed with the Geze binding. It can be concluded the tibia moments that will occur during a fall will be different between the two ski binding boot concepts. The Nava system released the dummy before these moments were excessive, but the stiff boot, classical binding did not produce as a high a moment on the skier. (4) Further testing might be needed to account for Z-moment differences between the two designs. Verf.-Referat
