Abstract

Effect of three-days fasting, and then acute effect of glucose and oil-feeding on triglycerides and glycogen levels in the vastus superficial, vastus deepest and the soleus was examined in the rat. The fasting resulted in gradual reduction of the triglyceride levels in each muscle studied. The level of glycogen was reduced after one day of fasting and then remained stable. Treatment with glucose of rat fasted for 72hr had no effect on triglyceride levels in the muscles. It restored partly glycogen level in the vastus superficial and resulted in supercompensatory glycogen recovery in the other two muscles. Feeding with oil restored fully the level of triglycerides in the vastus superficial and almost completely in the vastus deepest and soleus. The levels of glycogen, though restored partially, remained still significantly lower than the respective controls. Verf.-Referat
