Abstract

Twenty female members of university jogging classes were tested after 2 wks of conditioning on max VO2 and on the 1 mile and 2 mile runs. Both distance runs correlated significantly with max VO2 (r=-.62 for 1 mile and -.67 for 2 mile). An r of .93 was obtained between the two distances. Because of student preference and the shorter time needed for administration, the 1 mile run is recommended as a field test. However, when body weight was held constant, the correlations between the distance runs and max VO2 became insignificant. Hence, neither distance run test could be recommended as a valid predictor or aerobic capacity when max VO2 is used as the criterion. Verf.-Referat
