As sports practice is becoming more and more common, it is increasingly necessary to evaluate the possibility of accidents in each sport. This type of study has already been promoted by the French horse-riding Federation for a number of years. The most dangerous traumatic risk is that of head injuries (first in the list of serious horse-riding accidents), particularly because the currently used protective headgear is inadequate. It is indispensable to establish new standards for a protective headgear for horse-riders. The authors define the objectives and proposals of the Association francaise de Normalisation. Verf.-Referat
