Abstract
The broad canvas of the human rise and fall immediately presents the applied physiologist with an important challenge. Most studies of physical fitness and exercise responses to date have involved subjects aged 20 to 30 years. Usually, they have been white males of fairly high socio-economic status. Very little is known about changes in exercise tolerance as the male moves from young to middle and later adult life, and even less information is available on the same aging process in the female. There is a need to examine details of this maturation not only in white anglo-saxon protestants, but in some of the minorities and underprivileged segments of our world community. The author thus indicates a few specific challenges to imaginative physiological and psychological research during the working years of adult life. Verf.-Referat
