Abstract
The maximum external power, produced on a bicycle ergometer, is determined with a load block of fixed duration and presetted optimal resistance. The resistance is such that the subject, who determines his own pedal frequency between 90 and 110 revolutions per minute, is exhausted after 2 1/2 minutes. The maximum external power, realized by the maximum capacity of both the aerobic and the anaerobic metabolism, is quantified by Pmax. Besides, the value of the VO2 can be recorded in the same short test. However, in order to be able to preset an optimal restraint, research is necessary. For well-trained subjects a tuning corresponding with 8 Watt/kg fat-free body weight turns out to be a good starting point for men as well as for women. Several methodological problems with the usefulnes of the test in a longitudinal research of skaters are discussed. Verf.-Referat
