Abstract

War games - a new and increasingly popular form for recreation that combines sports and military activity - are resulting in serious eye injuries. The 13 cases discussed in this paper present 6 of all sports related eye injuries reported in Quebec in 1984. None of the victims was wearing goggles or other facial protection when the injury occurred. Types of injuries include hyphema, vitreous hemorrhage, and cataract. Better ocular protection is essential for preventing injuries in those who participate in these games. In addition, more effort should be made to educate the players on the importance of using ocular protection. Verf.-Referat
