Abstract

The effects of exercise on the endocrine system are complex.Acute exercise markedly alters the plasma levels of a number of hormones, and additional changes have been described in subjects who exercise chronically. This review describes the effects of acute exercise and/or physical training on patients with a variety of endocrine disorders. The latter include types I and II diabetes, thyroid disease, Cushings syndrome, menstrual dysfunction, osteoporosis, and pheochromocytoma. Particular emphasis is placed on the altered hormonal response to exercise in such individuals, and on the potential benefits and risks of physical activity. Verf.-Referat
