Abstract
It is the present authors contention that the reliability of skinfold measurements should be examined for different portions of the entire distribution. This investigation was designed to examine the reliability of skinfold measurements for experimental groups of lean, average and obese subjects consisting of male and female college students. Specific purposes were as follows: 1) To compare skinfold measurements taken with two kinds of pinch-calipers in popular use. 2) To examine the reliability of skin plus subcutaneous fat measurements taken from the soft tissue X-ray films. 3) To compare pinch-caliper and X-ray film measurements.
