Abstract des Autors

Regular physical activity may be an important tool in the health care plan of children with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). It appears that the degree of metabolic control (determined by circulating blood glucose) can be altered as the intensity and/or duration of exercise changes. Therefore, it is particularly important to identify the effects of changes in both intensity and duration of physical activity patterns on metabolic control in children with IDMM. The purpose of this pilot study was to examine the heart rate patterns of four IDDM children during a normal day at camp, and compare this to a day that included special vigorous physical exercise programs using a continuous Holter monitoring system. The short term effects of these activity programs on the occurrence of glucosuria and hypoglycemia are also reported. Verf.-Referat
