Abstract
We re-examined 137 patients who were subjected to meniscectomy in the decade 1971-1980. Of those who practised a sport at the time of the original accident (101), less than half (44) have returned to the same sports activity at the same level. This rate of failure in the recovery of sports performance is connected with a chronic antero-external insufficiency, worsened by the rupture of the meniscus. This involves a precise diagnosis, which shifts the trend of therapy in the sports practitioner towards reconstructive surgery. Verf.-Referat
