Abstract

The most recent studies carried out at the Sports Traumatology Centre of Pavia University on the surgical use of arthroscopy are discussed in this article. Arthroscopy is taken into consideration where the diagnosis and treatment of main knee lesions, due to sport, are concerned. All the subjects were examined in order to decide whether the operation should be performed endoscopically (surgical arthroscopy) or athrotomically. The experience acquired over the last few years, together with the lines taken by the principal foign schools, emphasize the increasing use of arthroscopy also due to the even more sophisticated medical equipments which permit a great number of technical solutions (arthroplasty system).
