Abstract

The effects of oxygen administration on simulated athletic competition were examined. The study used ten high school football players in a design that utilized a treadmill workbout and three treatments - ambient air, a placebo, and 02. The treatments were administered at specific points, based on target HRs, in the workbout. Performance and recovery were examined using MANOVA. The results indicated no significant overall treatment effects between the treatments. Based on these results there does not appear to be any justification for using 02 as a aid to recovery and subsequent performance during athletic competition. Verf.-Referat
