Abstract
To study the ventilatory and metabolic response to heat stress during exercise, five trained subjects rode on bicycle ergometers on two occasions for 45 minutes at approximately 60 percent of their V02max. One test was performed in a cool neutral environment while the other experiment was conducted in a simulated hot/humid environment to impose heat stress on the subjects. Results showed an increase in HR and Tre occurred in all subjects during exercise in the simulated humid environment when compared to exercise in the neutral environment. Oxygen uptake tended to be higher during the heat stress exercise test when compared to exercise in the neutral environment, but was not significant. Frequency of breathing and V1 was significantly higher during the heat stressed exercise task when compared with exercise in the neutral environment. No difference in tidal volume existed between the two exercise conditions. Verf.-Referat
