Abstract
This brief state-of-the-art paper deals with sports medicine today. The increase in the discipline of sports medicine is due to the growth of youth, master or veteran and women sports. Also, an increased interest in physical fitness has greatly increased sports participants. With this expanded sporting activity, a concomitant increase has occurred in the number of sports medicine professionals working with these athletes. The purpose of this paper is to define the area of sports medicine, describe content areas, and list professionals working in this new area. Verf.-Referat
