Abstract
The present study is concerned with the active position sense following injuryto the articular structures of the ankle. Three groups of subjects, varying inthe seriousness of ankle sprains, were required to replicate four ankle posi- tions. The results showed a linear trend between the degree of error and the range of movement with the largest error occurring at the largest angles of movement, compared with the uninjured ankle and a control group. Further, the error was greatest for the most severely injured group of subjects. The impli-cations of thesefindings are discussed in terms of the effect of loss of pro-prioception in skilled actions.
