Abstract

After surgical operation 1267 menisci were prepared histologically by the Pathological Department between 1975-1977. The data of the morphological examinations as well as the clinical data of operated patients in 1975 were elaborated. It can be proved that 23 of the athletes belonged to the ball- players. A correlation was found between the mucoid degeneration of menisci and the number of ruptures. The necrosis of the tissue develops always after the rupture and during the time from the injury to the operation the mucoid degeneration as well as the damage of other parts of the articulation keeps onintensifying. The above mentioned data also support the primary importance of microtraumas in the development of injuries. As a prevention of more serious damage of the knee-joint the early operation of the injured meniscus is recommended. Verf.-Referat
