Abstract
Heart rates were measured in six powerboat racers during 5-mile races. Since little physical strength is involved in driving a boat and the air temperaturewas 60 to 65 F, the heart rates in these subjects were affected only by psychological stress. The high heart rates were recorded support other studieson the impact of psychological stress on heart rates in various sports. The medical significance of this tachycardia is unknown, but the other physical dangers are probably more important than the stress tachycardia in such events.Verf.-Referat
