Abstract

The relationship between certain track and swim events was pointed out. Essentially there is a four to one distance ratio which exists between track and swim events (i.e., the 400 m track event is similar to the 100 m swim event). It is becoming increasingly evident that by knowing the energy supply systems available to the athlete, the coach may plan an optimal training program to assure maximum development of these energy sources. Since both runners and swimming are limited by the same metabolic requirements a common basis for their training protocols should exist, that is to develop the particular anaerobic or aerobic energy pathway in training which is to be employed in theirrace. This forms the basis for the specificity of training concept which has been stressed in the current literature. Verf.-Referat
