Abstract

Two examples of extreme bradycardia in middle-aged runners are deseribed. one showed intermittent atrioventricular block with ventricular rates as low as 28beats per minute, while the other had marked sinus bradycardia with a rate of 31 beats per minute. Bradycardia in athletes reflects autonomic nervous system influence, both a decrease in sympathetic in vagal effect. The degree of bradycardia may not correlate precisely with the level of aerobic fitness (as measured by oxygen consumption) nor with the performance of the athlete. Verf.-Referat
