Abstract

The results of this study indicate that the maximal aerobic power of water polo players should be at least 70/ml/kg/min. Similarly, long distance swimmers would require higher aerobic capacity than was demonstrated on Olympic swimmers included in this sample. It appears that maximal aerobic capacity higher than that demonstrated by rowers in this study would be required for winning an Olympic medal. Similarly, all members of a soccer team, except perhaps the goalkeeper, competing at Olympic Games should possess higher potential of cardiovascular endurance than was demonstrated by soccer players from Morocco. These recommendations for attainment of high aerobic capacity should be supported by a low total body fat content, preferably below ten percent and should be accompanied by high lean body mass. These attributes supported by the respective technical skills, should describe the appropriate physical condition for Olympic athletes who are competing for the highest honors at Olympic Games.
