Abstract
Did the DFB (German Football Association) support the military dictatorship in Argentina when it organised the 1978 Football World Cup? In German press and sports historiography it is very often said that the political attitudes of the leading representatives in German football were right-wing and therefore the DFB sympathised with the violation of human rights committed by the Argentine junta. This paper will deconstruct this very popular myth and show how left-wing propaganda produced this myth. It also reveals how parts of German sports historiography try to manipulate history and why sports history has become, in part, an issue of broader political and ideological discussions. Verf.-Referat
