Abstract
Aim. The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes of non-enzymatic antioxidant and total antioxidant capacity after two acute supramaximal exercise (normoxic conditions and at high altitude). Methods. Ten males, students in physical education (aged, 20.8 ± 2.99 years; height 172.8 ± 3.83 cm; weight 62.7 ± 7,32 kg; BMI 21,2 ± 2.38), agreed to participate in this study. Venous blood samples were obtained 10ml from antecubital region at rest (basal-b), before warm-up, at R0 (immediately after Wingate Anaerobic Power Test (WAPT) at R5 (fifth minute at recovery period), and at R40 (fortieth minutes recovery period) in normoxic conditions and at high altitude.
Results. In normoxic conditions, while plasma ascorbic acid, uric acid and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) concentrations increased, a-tocopherol and ' carotene concentrations declined (p<0.05). At high altitude, when plasma ascorbic acid, a-tocopherol, b-carotene concentrations decreased, uric acid and total antioxidant capacity concentrations increased in measurements of recovery period, compared to basal (p<0.05). Conclusion. This study demonstrates that supramaximal exercise is associated with acute changes in plasma non-enzymatic antioxidants. Especially, at high altitude, vitamin E supplement and b-carotene supplement are likely to be necessary. Verf.-Referat
