Abstract des Autors

The purpose of the present investigation was to evaluate the usefulness of aerobic and anaerobic cycle ergometry for performance prediction of short and medium distance swimming among top swimmers. Twenty-three nationally ranked male swimmers (age 16.4 +/- 2.8 years) underwent an incremental aerobic cycle leg exercise test and the Wingate Anaerobic Test (WAnT). Each swimmer performed swimming (free style) in 25, 75, 100 and 400 m. The swimming velocity of the anaerobic threshold (A.T.) was also determined for each swimmer. The results suggest that 1. WAnT cycle arm ergometry is a sensitive laboratory tool for predicting short distance swimming performance in highly trained swimmers. 2. Leg aerobic cycle ergometry is a poor predictor for either short or middle distance swimming ability. Low correlations were obtained between swimming velocity at the A.T. and the laboratory and short distance swimming test. Verf.-Referat
