Abstract des Autors

Stress induced changes of the growth plate are defined by a painful widening without reduced bone density and without trauma in athletes between the age of 12 and 16. It can manifest itself in a partial or complete epiphysiolysis, or in a fracture Salter-Harris type I, II or III. The longterm result can be a symmetrical or asymmetrical growth disturbance. There are several reports in the literature about overuse injuries with widening of the physis in the upper extremity. Reports about this phenomenon in the lower extremity are rare and they affect mainly runners. Therefore this description of a stress related partial widening of the distal femoral physis in a swimmer is unusual. In this case a bone bridge in the growth plate developed. In order to avoid an asymmetrical growth disturbance surgery according to Langenskjöld was performed. Initial treatment should always consist of a period of non-weight bearing and cessation of sporting activity. Verf.-Referat
