Abstract des Autors

Injection of bone marrow stem cells in a liquid fibrin matrix in a patellar tendon window defect significantly improved the healing process in an animal study. Tissue samples of untreated tendon defects, and defects treated with fibrin matrix without cells, revealed less mature healing tissue with reduced biological and biomechanical properties. In contrast to the treatment with bone marrow stem cells, defects filled with a mixture of fibroblasts and liquid fibrin matrix increased collage fibrin diameter, but did not influence the molecular biological and biomechanical results significantly. Tissue Engineering with bone marrow stem cells in liquid fibrin matrix may be a new treatment option to improve the complex process of tendon and ligament healing and the clinical results of tendon and ligament injuries.
