Abstract

Footstructure has an influence on the whole posture, which in turn influences motorcapacities. Not only does foot structure allow to keep balance, move, but is also used in water as a specific paddling lever. The foot plays an essential role in swimming, especially its arch which is not deep in swimmers. It would be erroneous to jump into a conclusion that water exercise causes the longitudinal arch to become even flatter. The subject literature presents other viewpoints on correlation between foot arch and speed. From a biomechanical point of view there is such a correlation, but this is opposed by those who claim that the paddling area has basically no influence on swimming speed in crawl style leg movement. This is style specific, as for instance the free or backstroke styles are different than the classical style as to the movements. With respect to which the following objectives were set forth: Examining foot arch in a lest group of swimmers; Determining correlation between left and right foot arch and swimming speed in boys and girls.
