Abstract
Sport events on ice are based on fast movement (speed skating), attractive aesthetics, emotional luxury (figure skating) and intensive game close to fighting (ice hockey). In all cases, effective sliding is used to increase the speed but it requires also developed equilibrium. Since the intensity of movement is high, the most important pathway for energy production is the anaerobic glycolysis. Duration of exercise may add demands for oxidative phosphorylation. For speed skaters and ice hockey players specifically developed strong muscles are necessary.
