Abstract
In Mönchengladbach wird zur Zeit das modernste Hockeyzentrum Europas errichtet. Die Anlage umfasst eine Hockeyarena (14.500 Sitzplätze) und ein Trainingsgelände (Nebenstadion), welches auch als Wettkampfstätte (mit mobile Tribünen bis zu 5000 Zuschauer) genutzt werden kann. Das nationale Hockeyzentrum soll als Hauptspiel- und Lehrgangsort des Deutschen Hockeybundes dienen. Bei der Arena handelt es sich um eine lichtdurchflutete Multifunktionshalle, die gleichzeitig auch den Zweck einer Veranstaltungshalle (Messehalle, Show- und Kulturveranstaltungen) erfüllen soll.

Abstract
What is currently Europe´s biggest and most modern hockey centre is currently being built in Mönchengladbach´s Nordpark. It consists of the hockey arena with a total of 14.500 seats and a training facility. This ancillary stadium is right next to the main hockey stadium and, equipped with temporary stands, can be used as a match venue for up to 5.000 spectators. The functional building (heated area) for athletes, match organizers, match officials and the media is integrated in the Hockey Centre. The Hockey Centre will be the main match venue and seminar centre for all the national teams of the German Hockey Association (Land an national centre). The offices of the German Hockey Association will also be accommodated here. Mönchengladbach will thus become Germany´s National Hockey Centre. A special feature is the entrance area to the hockey stadium. This "Area of Events and Sports", a spacious, lightflooded multifunctional hall, doubles as an events venue. As a self-supporting exhibition hall without permanent spectator stands, the hall offers plenty of scope for sport (mainly hockey), shows and arts events, presentations, and sponsors' and company events. It is hoped that Mönchengladbach's proximity to the hockey-loving Netherlands will attract large gates to major hockey tournaments. The Hockey World Cup taking place here in September 2006 will be an event of just this kind. In addition, the arena will be permanently used by the two Mönchengladbach hockey clubs (Gladbacher HTC and Rheydter SV), which will thus have a highly attractive home ground at their disposal.
