Abstract des Autors
Verf.-Referat
Abstract des Autors
At present there are approx. 4.2 million skiers in Germany and approx. 82 million worldwide. The ski revolution of carving has been on its triumphal march worldwide for around 8 to 9 years. Approx. 80 % of all skiers now use carving skis. Normal skis are hardly offered anymore in the retail trade and ski hire companies. The intense and controversial discussion of the past few years regarding the influence of carving on the risk of injuries in alpine skiing, now appear to have been answered. There has still not been any increase in the risk of injuries determined so far. These results are also confirmed by studies in other countries. In order to continue to reduce the numbers of skiing accidents, more attention should be paid than in the past to the change in the age structure of skiers and the change in skiing style owing to the carving ski in alpine skiing with measures for accident prevention. A specific physical preparation for the skiing season is more important than ever. Special attention must still be focussed on observing the FIS rules and the general consideration. Verf.-Referat
