Abstract des Autors
Chronic complaints of the lower leg are frequently seen in athletes. One of the causes is the chronic exertional compartment syndrome with increased muscle pressure due to intensive physical exercise. The non-localised, dull and sometimes cramping pain present during exercise usually subsides afterwards. If conservative therapy fails, fasciotomy is the solution. However, the diagnosis should be confirmed by compartment pressure testing, to avoid discouraging results. Other causes of lower leg pain include entrapment of the superficial peroneal nerve. Adequate examination and surgical release of the nerve, if necessary, may ultimately prove to be the solution here. Verf.-Referat
