Abstract
Abstract
The basic physical education course during the last two years of high school with a final exam as a graduation requirement? Based on a qualitative study the author searches for answers to these questions with an emphasis on the realm of the cognitive aspects of the lessons. The answers are far from being homogeneous, but characterize the basic physical education course during the last two years of high school as an institution with various sides. However, significant resistance to the basic physical education course on its way to becoming a graduation requirement with a final exam seems to be related to a lack of identification with this goal. This holds true for both students who frequently perceive physical education as a compensating school, subject with little teaching character, als well as for teachers who especially fail at taking the teaching of theory seriously.
