Abstract
A group of subjects performed an intensive progressive "vita maxima" test of short duration. The samples of venous blood were taken before and immediately post-exercise. The levels of TNF-a and its receptor TNF-R1 in the blood serum were measured using the ELISA method (R&D Systems, UK). The mean work output of 215.6 kJ resulted in statistically significant increase in levels of TNF-alpha (p=0.000001) and TNF-R1 (p=0.0003) in the blood serum. It seems that serum TNF-R1 after the proteolytic shedding from the cell membrane is an effective inhibitor of apoptosis induced by the TNF-alpha production stimulated by an intensive physical exercise.
