Abstract des Autors

The author - who is a sports traumatologist with great experience - summarises and analyses the results of 7300 knee arthroscopies. 150 articular effusions were found of 7300 arthroscopic examinations (2%) which is a much lower rate than in the literature. He emphasises the importance of arthroscopy in the diagnosis of articular haemorrhage, which determines the strategy of treatment. This is very decisive at athletes because it can reduce the interruption of practice and competition. The following bleeding sources were found at arthroscopies: partial or total rupture of cruciate ligaments, injuries of articular cartilage and rupture of menisci. In many cases more structures were injured at the same time. The main conclusions of the article were that the articular bleeding is only the consequence of joint structures injuries; basic task is arthroscopy and the lavage of joint in the case of articular haemorrhage; the fast and correct diagnosis makes possible the adequate treatment for a fast return to sport.
