Abstract des Autors

Variants of muscles are more frequent than supernumerary bones, but are less well known. From time to time they are mentioned in case histories, not seldom published in journals on sports medicine. After prior observations of the Muscular Arch of the Axilla (Langer's Arch) and of a variant of the deltoideus muscle, a systematic survey was started at the VUB during the last two academic years. A total of 230 variants were seen in 55 skeletal muscles. This means that the human body is always somewhat different from the bodies presented in anatomical atlases and that every therapist certainly has patients presenting one or more of these variants. We strongly recommend to reactivate the study of myological variations in order to identify and elucidate those eventually responsible for disorders in the musculoskeletal system. Verf.-Referat
