Abstract des Autors

Transverse rupture of both peroneal tendons is a rare observation. Only four cases have been reported in the literature. We report the case of a 32-year-old professional athlete with an acute complete rupture of both peroneal tendons after sustaining an inversion injury. There was no history of prior inversion trauma of the involved ankle, and earlier MRI scans revealed no pathologic changes in the peroneal tendons. This thoroughly documented case demonstrates that, contrary to current beliefs, an acute rupture of both peroneal tendons can take place without a concomitant lesion of the lateral ankle ligaments or superior peroneal retinaculum and in the absence of prior degeneration of the involved peroneal tendons.
